Dating Tips - How I Finally Asked This Guy Out For a Date

When I was younger, I was very shy and I didn't know what to do when there were many new people around me. It was probably partly because I had a little accent when I spoke English. In high school, there was a guy I really like. He was not a popular guy or the best looking guy in school but his smile was just so attractive. Whenever I saw him on the hallway, he always looked happy, smiling. I always wanted to talk to him but it was just impossible.

Every day, after school, I practiced smiling and making good eye contact in front of the large mirror. It was so embarrassing when my mom passed by and suddenly asked me, "So, who is the boy?" I guess Mother knew everything.

I couldn't get myself to approach him and give a good eye contact and smile, which I was practicing for the past couple of months. What should I do after I give him a smile? I had no plan. Should I drop a pen and do "Bend and Snap" like Elle Woods did in "Legally Blonde"? That was a little too much of body action for me and I didn't want to break his nose.

It was March already, only two months before the graduation. I was still practicing sexy eye contacts every day. My mom passed by and she just shook her head this time. One day, I was looking at him on the hallway during the passing time between English and World History. He seemed to be in a hurry to go to the next class and he dropped a piece of paper, which was a handout from his Chemistry class. He didn't know he dropped it and nobody around cared to pick it up for him.

That was the first time I thanked God in my entire life. I picked it up and put it in my bag. During the next passing time, I was waiting for him and I knew that it was the moment I had been waiting for seventeen years. I saw him coming and I approached him and said, "Hi". Then, I gave him that smile and sexy eye contact that I was working on for months. I knew it worked because he was not smiling anymore. I showed him the paper he dropped and he said that he didn't need it. He thanked me for it and he was on the way to his lunch. I put the paper in my bag, and I asked him if I could join him for lunch.

For the next few days, we had lunch together. But, I had a feeling that he would never ask me out. So, I decided to ask him for a date. We went out for a couple of months till he went off to college. Oh, I forgot to mention that I asked him to go to the prom with me, too.

I still have that Chemistry handout he dropped on the hallway that day. It has been in my treasure box for a few years.
